PRM8020 High/Low Power Mod

The Philips PRM8020 does not have a high/low power button. The power level may be set on each individual channel but this is a bit limiting for conversion to ham radio. This minor modification will allow the auxiliary output, which can be programmed to one of the front panel buttons, to be used to select high or low power. The main picture shows the control board and the wire layout.

Cut the thin track at the position marked with the red dot. Check this with a multimeter. Solder a thin wire to the track. As this track is very thin it maybe advisable to make a wire clamp similar to the one in the photo.

Solder the other end of the wire to the smd capacitor which is connected to pin 8 of the modem DIL socket.

Check both of the connections and test the power output changes from high to low when pressing the auxiliary button. The "^" symbol will indicate low power.
